National Night Out

The Towns of Kenbridge and Victoria are sponsoring the 2022 National Night Out event for Lunenburg County.  The event will take place at Victoria Railroad Park on Tuesday, August 2, 2022 from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM.  Various first responders from the area will be on hand to meet the public.  There will also be first responder vehicles on display.  Free hotdogs, chips, and bottled water will be available for attendees.  We hope to see you in the park Tuesday afternoon.

Oral Oaks Road Closure

Oral Oaks Road will be closed between K-V Road and the Lunenburg County Solid Waste Convencience Site on Saturday, July 23, 2022 from 7:00 AM unitl 5:00 PM for a VDOT pipe replacement project.  The convenience site can be reached by traveling Mecklenburg Avenue/Mecklenburg Street to Oral Oaks Road.

Victoria Pool Opening

The Victoria pool is scheduled to open on Wednesday, June 8, 2022.  The arrival of pool paint and the scheduling of the Virginia Health Department inspection have caused the opening to be pushed back to this date.  Applications can be obtained at the Victoria Town Office or downloaded here, 2022 Pool Season Pass Application

Victoria Police Department News

The Town of Victoria is pleased to announce that effective June 1, 2022 Joel Manning will be the next police chief for the town.  Along with Chief Manning, Officer Camden Lawson will be joing the department as a full-time police officer.  The two officers are very enthusiastic about their new positions and are looking forward to working with the citizens of Victoria.

Yard Maintenance

As grass cutting season has gotten into full swing, this is a reminder of the Town of Victoria grass ordinance.  Owners of property in the Town of Victoria with buidlings or other improvements, whether occupied or vacant, are reminded that grass, weeds, and other foreign growth must be maintained at a height of less than ten inches.  Properties will be checked monthly from May through September. Properties that are in violation of this ordinance may receive a red violation notice on the front door.  This notice is a reminder to maintain the lawn.  If on a subsequent check for that month, the lawn remains uncut the town may enter the property and cut the grass.  The costs of cutting the grass will be charged to the owner.  The town appreciates everyone's assistance with maintaining properties in the town.

FY2023 Proposed Budget Public Hearing

Victoria Town Council will hold a public hearing on the proposed FY2023 town budget on Tuesday, May 10, 2022 at 7:00 PM at the Victoria Municipal Building.  The proposed budget includes a $1.00 per month increase in the minimum water charge and a $2.00 per month increase in the minimum sewer charge.  These increases are due to water and sewer projects coming up in FY23.

Semi-Annual Hydrant Flushing

Victoria Waterworks personnel will be flushing fire hydrants during the overnight hours of Tuesday, April 19th and Wednesday, April 20th.  All hydrants are flushed semi-annually to ensure proper operation and also to meet regulatory requirements.

Wastewater Treatment Facilities Projects

The Town of Victoria currently operates two facilities to process and prepare wastewater for discharge back into the environment.  The West Wastewater Treatment Facility located at the end of Grove Avenue was constructed in the early 1990’s and is permitted to process an average of 200,000 gallons of wastewater per day.  The East Wastewater Treatment Facility located at the end of 5th Street was constructed in 1995 and rehabilitated in 2008.  This facility is permitted to process an average of 400,000 gallons of wastewater per day.  Wastewater is processed at both facilities to make it safe for discharge back into the environment.

Driver Feedback Speed Limit Sign

The Town of Victoria has recently installed a driver feedback speed limit sign on Mecklenburg Avenue near the intersection of W. 7th Street.  This sign will show the driver their speed as they are traveling along Mecklenburg Avenue.  At a set limit above the speed limit the sign will flash the speed in amber numbers.  If the speed is higher the numbers will continue to flash in amber and a strobe light will begin flashing as well. At a predetermined speed the numbers will change to red and will alternate between red numbers and the words SLOW DOWN.
